Does that breathing therapy work?

Question by There is nothing left to lose: Does that breathing therapy work?
Does it work the way people say it does? Like it gives you this high and let’s your mind sort itself out and be more positive and stuff? Was thinkin of trying it like now… But I want some feedback… Any takerz?
I read about it today…
You lie down and close your eyes
Then breathe in twice through the nose and exhale quickly through the mouth- imagine the beat to We will rock you.
Apparently the rising oxygen levels make your mind slip for a minute and allows you to calm down and sort things straight in your head quicker than you would have done and it allows you to be sharper and focused for the rest of the day…. Plus while u do it it supposedly gives you a feeling similar to that of a high….
I wanna know if it’s worked for people…?????

does WHAT breathing therapy work? I have found that if you try to stop for too long it can be deleterious to your health.

It sounds like all you’re doing is deliberately hyperventilating. Do it enough and you can suppress the breathing function so much by saturating your blood with oxygen and depleting CO2 that you can actually die before your breathing reflex kicks in again.

My mother has asthma & emphyzema, can Hyperbaric Chamber Therapy treatments help her breathing?

Question by Nellie_1974: My mother has asthma & emphyzema, can Hyperbaric Chamber Therapy treatments help her breathing?
My mother has been suffering from chronic lung problems for about 10 years. A family acquaintance who also has the same lung problems to the extent that she wasn’t able to make her bed without getting extremely winded , apparently she did a Hyperbaric Chamber Therapy Treatment and it helped her so much that she didn’t need assistance with an oxygen tank for 4hrs. My mother needs to be on oxygen day and night as well. Has anyone heard of this type of treatment? I looked at what the Hyperbaric Chamber does for healing, but is there that great of an improvement for someone with chronic lung problems? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Tha answer is, unfortunately, that this is unlikely to offer any benefit, and may cause harm.

People with COPD sometimes require a certain level of carbon dioxide in their blood, to stimulate the respiratory center in the brain. Too much oxygen can depress this drive, and people can become apnoeic (stop breathing).

This is why people on domiciliary oxygen (like your mother) are on low flow oxygen (1-2 L).

The only interventions that have been proven to improve mortality in COPD patients (ie improve survival) is to STOP SMOKING, and low-flow continuous oxygen. Nothing has been shown to heal or reverse COPD.

Q&A: myofunctional therapy for mouth breathing?

Question by Kim16757: myofunctional therapy for mouth breathing?
I have a lot of tension around my mouth, like when i put my lips together (i am a mouth breather) it looks like i’m forcing myself to close my mouth. Plus I have these dimple like things on my chin when I close my mouth…. How can i get rid of this? Are there exercises out there for this kind of thing?

Best answer:

Answer by boogeywoogy
No. Myofunctional therapy is for tongue-thrust, not mouth breathing.
Consult an ENT for an investigation into why you are a mouth breather. Nasal narrowing, nasal polyps, enlarged adenoids, a long soft palate, or enlarged tonsils can all cause a person to be a mouth breather. Once these conditions have been addressed, you shouldn’t have any more problems.

Does steam therapy (breathing in steam) help a cough go away?

Question by ol_skater_boy: Does steam therapy (breathing in steam) help a cough go away?
If so, how does it help?

Best answer:

Answer by cwgrrl7
It helps impart moisture into a dry or congested airway. It won’t “help” certain coughs, but some can be comforted this way.
The most effective method is to increase your fluid intake-drink lots of juices or non carbonated beverages to keep the mucus liquefied and mobile.

Q&A: Has anyone ever broken ribs after being on steroid therapy for breathing problems?

Question by SeaMistress: Has anyone ever broken ribs after being on steroid therapy for breathing problems?
I have broken my ribs 5 times, each time after steroid therapy for COPD. I’m just curious to know if anyone else can relate to this?

Best answer:

Answer by greenmountains84
I went through this with my mom before she passed away. The steroid therapy can cause your bones to become more brittle and break easily. Be careful and best wishes!
